The WCEC (Western Cooling Efficiency Centre) is an institute which has a primary goal of accelerating efficient HVAC technologies. WCEC partners with
industry stakeholders to stimulate the development of impactful cooling technologies that enable reduction in energy consumption for buildings.

WCEC has strong knowledge in the following areas:

  • Market Barriers
  • Codes & Standards
  • Technology evaluation
  • Building energy modelling
  • Cooling Hot/Dry climates
  • Human behaviour in HVAC
  • Heat Transfer
  • Thermal energy distribution
  • HVAC system control

WCEC is able to test new and upcoming HVAC technology in their laboratory due to their close relationships with manufacturers, policymakers, and utilities. Both Air2O and UC Davis are aware of the continuing environmental / climate change impact that greenhouse gas emissions will continually have on the planet.

A few of the research projects that UC Davis have been involved with include aerosolized sealants for building envelopes, residential space-conditioning systems, RTU optimizations, improving water / energy efficiency in California’s dairy industry, and many more.
